In Memory of Tom Gross

Story

Tom passed away on Saturday 10 February at 5.05pm in Laurel Hospice, Adelaide, South Australia surrounded by his loving family and adored friend.
Tom was diagnosed aged 25 in 2010, whilst he was completing his final semester of Mechanical Engineering at Adelaide University when he had his first resection. He was told after the surgery he would never sit another exam nor complete his degree. However, they had not encountered our Tom whose determination knew no boundaries.  The following year Tom graduated with Honours.
Tom’s neurosurgeon Mr Santosh Poonoose said he has met many people in his life but he has never met anyone like Tom, who in the most challenging of times would display such courage. We thank Santosh for his genuine love and care of Tom and through his skill giving him the best possible life.

The Brain Cancer (GBM, glioblastoma multiforme) stole so much from our beautiful boy, it would take something and then kept coming back for more, it is a cruel disease and our son was robbed of his future. We take comfort that he is no longer in pain and that he is now free.

We pray that one day a cure will be found for this beast. Our hearts are broken. The world has lost a most beautiful soul. Our promise to Tom was that we would all live our best life, that we would not mourn his loss but treasure that we had nearly 33 years with this beautiful person, whose wit, intelligence, infinite kindness and courage inspired us all.

Tom benefited from the NeuroSurgical Research Foundation, if you would like to make a donation to this non for profit organisation, who do specific research into glioblastoma it would be greatly appreciated by the family.
